Member to Member conflict

From time to time conflict arises between members. The first step to resolving issues between members is try and mediation the situation with Stewards.

A Steward will assist by:

  1. Introductions – to introduce everyone and describe the process you will use and to make a list of ground rules
  2. Fact finding – asking each person to tell their side of the story and confirm the facts that both people agree on
  3. Identifying interests – asking questions to figure out what the issues are behind the position each person is taking
  4. Finding a solution – brainstorming all possible solutions and helping members to choose the best solution for both sides
  5. Follow up – by checking in with both members to see if things have imporved

using stewards to resolve the issues builds solidarity in the union and workplace, protects members from a toxic workplace and prevents the employer from taking disciplinary action.

If members are unable to resolve at this level, management will need to assist in the resolution.

If you are experiencing conflict with another member please speak to one of your stewards.
